Play local and network files

You can use TinyPlay without setting up a media server. Browse local folders, mounted paths, SMB shares, or WebDAV shares; choose the starting folder from your phone, then browse and play by directory. You can start watching without first setting up posters or plugins.

This mode keeps the remote controls for pause, seeking, subtitles, audio tracks, and playback speed. It does not provide posters, episode metadata, or resume history.

macOS

Play a local or mounted folder

Under Add media source, choose Local folder, then browse a folder on this Mac in the folder picker.

For files on a NAS, you can first mount the share with Finder → Go → Connect to Server, then choose the mounted folder as the source.

Connect to an NAS share directly

Choose SMB share, enter the share address and credentials, then choose the share and folder to browse inside TinyPlay after the connection succeeds.

Windows

Play a local or mounted folder

Choose Local folder, then browse any drive in the folder picker. You can also map a network drive in This PC first and choose the mapped folder.

Connect to an NAS share directly

Choose SMB share, enter the share address and credentials, then choose the share and starting folder inside TinyPlay. Drive mapping is not required.

WARNING

TinyPlay runs on the computer connected to the TV, so “Local folder” means a path that this computer can access — not a folder on your phone.
